Some of boxing’s reliable blogs and papers, including the Ring magazine, recently included our very own Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire in their list of top ten pound-for-pound best boxers in the world today. He is ranked number seven in ring mag’s list and he is out to prove his critics on Sunday that he belongs.

The recent IBF flyweight champion will go up a notch come Sunday as he moves up in weight class to face Panama’s Rafael Concepcion for the interim World Boxing Association super flyweight title.

Many expected Donaire’s move to 115 due to his size and his combination of speed and power that helps him to move up with ease. Plus, his speed and power won’t be a problem going into the fight, he is no “Filipino Flash” for nothing and don’t forget his breakout fight against the oh-so arrogant Vic Darchinyan, where Nonito showed he has power on both hands.

His super flyweight debut is very interesting, as a lot of analysts want to know if he is for real.

Donaire is coming off an impressive title defense over Mexican Raul Martinez via TKO in the fourth round last April where the Filipino Flash made a piñata out of his Mexican foe.

Now, he plans on continuing his streak to solidify his place in the pound-for-pound rankings.

Donaire is a very talented fighter and many believe that he is one of the upcoming fighters in the world of boxing and is slowly following the foot steps of pound-for-pound king Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.

I am a huge Donaire fan and I believe that he has the tools and the motivation to climb up and again make us proud to be a Filipino.

Also, his patriotism is never in question, as a proof, he will wear yellow trunks instead of his usual red to represent the late great President Cory Aquino.

It sucks that I am required to watch a play on Sunday simultaneous Donaire’s fight so it’s unlikely for me to watch it live but I’ll sure catch it on replays. If Donaire triumphs and performs well, which I think he will, he is well on his way to worldwide stardom.

Our guy is favored to win on Sunday but I won’t make a prediction to avoid jinxing him. No upsets please.
